I came across some oldies in my backup CD (whats that?) collection: Nostalgia triggers so many memories. We are fortunate to have siblings & family who love us. And a reminder, of the many blessings we have received from the good Lord, along the way, though we do not deserve any.

Here both of us, with out brothers, circa 1987

unnamed

Here is a group photo of little girls living at the Girls Home of Hope. The way the software iPhoto rendered the snap, I thought it worthy of a display. So here it goes:

Angels at the Girls Home of Hope

From one viewpoint they looks like unnamed beneficiary of hard work from a committed organization and faithful workers. Beneficiary of generosity, for which they ought to be grateful. They must be living day in and day out feeling like 'I am all alone', trying to find a place in this world. Getting trimmed and polished when visitors come to visit. How are they building their worldviews? Most likely by observing GrownUps, watching what they Do, not by what they talk about and by hearing the hushed discussions. How does it impact their confidence or self-worth? And when they face the outside world: Some of the lucky ones join regular government high school, then to face the prying eyes of the other kids, with moms-n-dads.

How does the creator views them? He knows what they feel when their dad or mom visit them once a year accompanied by a stranger, when they see brand new 'puja' dress that other kids are wearing on the street, see their neighboring world on the TV (and more likely on a mobile phone).  These unnamed numbers are precious in His books. If He knows when every hair on their head falls down, then these angels must be more worthy of our attention. He can use any and all of this situation to mold their lives. He invites us to be a part of it. How we respond to that, is a free choice me and you have.

Collage by the boys

We had a fun afternoon, shooting pictures and building collages  with the boys (@ Boys Home, West Bengal, India).
I was amazed at how fast the boys warmed up, each of them took two snaps from their backyard (trees/flowers/switchboard), then we paired them two by two for portraits. The boys did a fun collaborative editing session huddled on one laptop, and they picked pics from last two days, to make collages out of them.

They loved changing the fill color to blue/red, or changing it to inverted colors, which they kept referring to as 'bhoot' (ghost) color. Their laughter filled the room, pure joy, on otherwise a dull 'puja' holiday, with all teachers off to their own families.
Most of these boys see their family one or two times a year, many have only one parent. The folks at CSS have taken the burden upon themselves, living out the command: "Anyone who has two tunic, should share with the one who has none" (Luke 3).

I have summoned you by name; you are mine - Isa 43
